Unix Systems Administrator | FLEXIBLE SHIFT OPERATIONS

Alternative work Schedule. 4 Days a Week, 10 Hour Days. Three Consecutive Days Off.

Jupiter Hosting is seeking a full time Unix Systems Administrator for Swing Shift Operations in our secured Santa Clara Data Center facility. Your primary responsibility would be to maintain customer systems while on duty, address customer requests via a support desk, and build new high-end server-based infrastructure. As a Systems Administrator with Jupiter Hosting, your primary day-to-day responsibilities will be split between the installation and configuration of new customer software and applications, and the support of existing customer opensource applications and servers. Must be able to work initially 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM for first four weeks of employment. This is the training period required before moving to the advertised shift.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate for this position will have the administrative and programming knowledge to quickly grasp customer problems, troubleshoot, and resolve them in a manner adhering to a company standard. In this fast paced environment, you may be working two or more customer problems at any one time.

The ideal candidate will have worked directly with hosting customers in the past on highly technical problems. The canidate must be able to communicate well with customers, both written (e-mail / chat) and verbally (phone) in English. The winning candidate will have a strong understanding of how to support moderately to advanced hosting customers across different operating systems.

You must be able to, at a minimum, Download, Compile, Install, Customize, Troubleshoot, use, and SUPPORT the following applications on FreeBSD and most Linux versions:

  • MySQL
  • Apache
  • DNS Record Administration
  • NFS / NAS File Servers Administration and Troubleshooting
  • PHP (Installation, configuration, and troubleshooting - NOT PROGRAMMING)
  • Rsync
  • Most Open Source Mail Applications
  • SSHd
    •

You will be working in a networked environment, so basic knowledge of networking will be required, including:

  • Making and Running CAT 5e Patch Cables
  • Racking Computer Servers
  • Adding / Removing Disk's in Array's
  • Maintaining Backups (swaping tapes)
  • Installing Rack Mount PDU's (power strips) and Shelves
    •

You must also have proven General System administrator abilities including:

  • Simple Script Writing
  • Scheduling Cron Jobs
  • Backing up Data to Tape or Other devices (SAN)
  • Creating secure NFS shares
  • Adding and removing users, SSH Keys, FTP Accounts, etc
  • Add / remove applications to startup procedures
  • Configure (add and remove) Network Devices, Ports, and Protocols
    •

You will be required to demonstrate your technical abilities in a test / simulated hosting environment at our corporate headquarters in Santa Clara, CA.

Some travel may be required (Domestic).
